Portfolio – The Project, Working Title

I’ve decided to construct the portfolios for this website as individual pages, for this one in particular this is a look into a very long project that I have been working on since High School. Of course, the standards of my writing, narrative structure, and well my hyperfixations at any given moment have all gone through very dramatic changes.

I believe I did this one year for an Inktober post on a now long-defunct Instagram account. I tried to tie some of the themes to the work that I was doing for the Project. I made this as an introductory image to cement the time that has gone into this project. I did this back in College.
“The Angel” – 2025 – WIP
“Snow”-2025 – WIP
“Joe” – 2025 – WIP

I did some work at the Cafe inside of the climbing gym near the Park. In between conversations with my sister, her boyfriend, and petting the small dog that sits behind the counter, I was able to do some sketches of a couple of characters and what a sort of idea for an Angel or Angelic figure.

I often find that when we try to make rational the irrational we lose a bit of the whimsy and creativity that makes something otherworldly. I have also found that if we mix the appropriate amount, switching realism for believability, we end up with something more impactful and therefore more likely to draw focus. For example, the “Angel”, above is inspired by Polyphemus Moths and the eyes that are on their wings, as well as making the Halo a sort of calcified growth rather than something ethereal. Fear is in the familiar as well, and adding human features that seem almost vestigial was kind of a neat idea. Plus, everything looks cooler with a wicked sword.

Snow is a character I draw a lot. He’s a sort of gaunt and haunted approach to the Fae I have captured with artistic interpretation now and again. The consistency always being their sorrowful expression and closeness with the arcane and occult.

Joe is special to me and I have put a lot of my own personal struggles with identity in her design. Without divulging too much, she is essentially a severed conscious trapped inside of a body that isn’t hers, and often regrets her existence in a form that doesn’t wholly represent her. However her Joue-De-Vivre (although not that apparent) clouds her periodic discomfort in her own skin.
